BASEBALL TONIGHT MINUTE: RANGERS MAKING NOISE
ANOTHER WEBB GEM
By Mark Simon, ESPN Research
The way Brandon Webb has been pitching recently, a win against the Pirates was considered almost certain, especially given his previous success against them. Webb got 21 ground ball outs in his complete-game victory Tuesday, helping the Diamondbacks push their lead in the National League West to 2 1/2 games over the Dodgers. He's 4-0 with a 2.63 ERA in his past seven starts, a significant improvement after a midseason hiccup. The same could be said about his team.| Best winning pct. vs. Pirates (active pitchers, min. 5 wins) |

THE WONDERS OF WEBB
TUESDAY'S NOTEWORTHY PERFORMANCES
| GOOD |
• Nick Swisher put an end to a wild game between the White Sox and Tigers. Swisher drilled a game-ending three-run homer in the bottom of the 14th inning to lift the White Sox to a 10-8 win.
|
BAD |
• Huston Street couldn't hold down the lead in the ninth. The A's closer gave up three hits and two runs to the Blue Jays in the bottom of the ninth in Oakland's 4-3 loss. |
UGLY |
| • The Philadelphia bullpen gave up six runs in three innings of work, turning a close game with the Marlins into an easy 8-2 win for Florida, which pulled within 1 1/2 games of the lead in the NL East. |
