In Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, with the Angels down 2-1 after Monday's dramatic, extra-innings win, we will start to see how managers Joe Girardi and Mike Scioscia have decided to use their starting staffs in different ways.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
Scott Kazmir has faced the Yankees 14 times in his career with Tampa Bay and the Angels. Although he is only 6-5 against New York, his career ERA is 2.67, his second-lowest ERA against any opponent against whom he has made more than 10 starts.
In three starts this season against the Yankees, Kazmir held New York's powerful lineup to just a .601 OPS, the lowest for any team he faced this season.
Kazmir has neutralized the Yankees' bats with his off-speed pitches:

MONDAY'S BEST AND WORST
| BEST |
• Ryan Howard connected on a two-run shot in the first inning against the Dodgers in Game 4 of the NLCS. The two RBIs marked the eighth consecutive postseason game in which Howard has driven home at least one run, tying him with Lou Gehrig for the record.
|
WORST |
• Jonathan Broxton couldn't get those last three outs to draw the Dodgers even with the Phillies in the NLCS. Instead, Broxton walked one batter, hit another and served up a game-ending two-run double to Jimmy Rollins as the Phillies erased a 4-3 deficit for a 5-4 win, improving their NLCS lead to 3-1. |
THIS DATE IN "THAT'S NASTY" HISTORY
Each night throughout the postseason, "Baseball Tonight" will remember some of the postseason's best pitching performances.
Oct. 20, 2004 -- Derek Lowe allowed one run and one hit in six innings as the Red Sox beat the Yankees in Game 7 of the ALCS, capping a rally from a 3-0 series deficit. Lowe won on two days' rest, the first pitcher to win the clincher of a series pitching on two days' rest since Mickey Lolich in Game 7 of the 1968 World Series.
