Wakamatsu on Nov. 19, 2008, became the 14th full-time manager in Mariners history. He has spent the past six seasons as a major league coach, including the 2008 season as bench coach for the Oakland Athletics. Wakamatsu also managed for four seasons in the minors; in 1998, he was named California League Manager of the Year in 1998 with High Desert.
