David Eckstein
David Eckstein's two-run homer in the second sparked the Cardinals.
Taking their cues from manager Tony La Russa, the Cardinals were business-like in their NLDS sweep of the Padres, writes Jerry Crasnick. Story

Gary Gillette on Ryan Klesko:

"He's a lumbering slugger who no longer can threaten left-handers. His decline is due to eroding skills. ... He can be a liability in the outfield and is a slow, if smart, baserunner."

SERIES NOTES

    ELIAS SAYS ...

    • The Cardinals are the ninth team in major league history to never trail in a postseason series. Since 1999, the only other team to do that was the Red Sox against the Cardinals in the 2004 World Series. The Cardinals had never previously won a postseason series in that manner.

Reggie Sanders had 10 RBI in the NLDS, the most by a player in a three-game postseason series. The only other player to play at least three games and average at least three RBI per game in a postseason series of any length was Graig Nettles, who drove in nine runs in the Yankees' three-game sweep of the Athletics in the 1981 ALCS.
