KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Behind another strong start by Jeremy Bonderman, the Detroit Tigers ended a long losing streak on Saturday. They send Mike Maroth to the mound Sunday against the Kansas City Royals.

Bonderman improved to 2-0 vs. the Royals this year with eight solid innings Saturday, leading the Tigers to a 7-1 win.

Carlos Guillen and Ivan Rodriguez each went 3-for-5 and Craig Monroe scored twice as Detroit snapped a five-game slide.

Maroth (0-1, 7.27 ERA) had a miserable 2005 debut against Kansas City on April 6, giving up five runs and 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings in a 7-2 loss. He recovered by allowing just two earned runs in five innings against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.

Maroth is 2-4 with a 4.84 ERA in seven career starts at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals, who have dropped four of their last five, give the ball to Runelvys Hernandez (1-1, 3.14), who was the winning pitcher against Maroth last Tuesday. He yielded a run and five hits in seven innings to earn his first win since 2003.

The 26-year-old is 3-0 with a 2.53 ERA in three career starts against the Tigers.
