SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will
continue their cross-country road trip Monday when they open a
three-game series with the
Seattle Mariners.
The Angels began the trip by taking two of three from the New
York Yankees. They lost the first two against the Minnesota
Twins before salvaging Sunday's finale, 2-1, to end Johan
Santana's 17-game winning streak.
Vladimir Guerrero and Jose
Molina each homered and
Bartolo Colon pitched 7 2/3 dominant
innings.
Jarrod Washburn (1-0, 3.38 ERA) will try to build on Colon's
outing in the series opener. The lefthander picked up his first
win of the season Wednesday, surrendering one run and nine hits
in 7 2/3 innings in a 5-1 triumph over the Yankees.
The Mariners counter with
Ryan Franklin (1-3, 4.09), who has
lost his last three starts. Inserted into the rotation in place
of injured
Bobby Madritsch, Franklin lasted at least eight
innings in his first three starts before being tagged for seven
runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings Wednesday in an 8-2 loss to
the
Texas Rangers.
Seattle returns home after a 3-3 road trip. Rookie
Jeremy Reed
and
Randy Winn combined for five of the Mariners' six hits
Sunday in a 3-2 loss to the
Oakland Athletics.
Reed, who scored both runs for Seattle, has hit safely in 16 of
his last 20 games.
