Dodgers visit White Sox for first time in 46 years

La Dodgers at Chi White Sox, 8:05 pm EDT

CHICAGO (Ticker) - The Los Angeles Dodgers visit the South Side of Chicago for the first time since the 1959 World Series when they open up a three-game interleague series with the White Sox on Friday.

The Dodgers won the decisive Game Six at Comiskey Park in 1959 to spoil the White Sox's last trip to the "Fall Classic."

Los Angeles could use a similar result to turn things around after losing three straight in Kansas City. Jason Grabowski and Jayson Werth had two RBI apiece but the Dodgers dropped a 9-6 decision to the Royals on Thursday.

After falling to 0-3 to start a 13-game road trip, Los Angeles will be forced to turn to rookie D.J. Houlton (2-0. 5.72 ERA) against Chicago ace Mark Buehrle (7-1, 2.91).

Houlton had an ERA of 7.41 in 13 relief appearances to start the year but has been effective in his first two major league starts, winning both while posting a 3.24 mark.

Both of those starts were at home, however, and the 6-4 righthander has allowed 13 runs in 10 innings on the road.

Buehrle has not factored in a decision in his last four starts despite recording a 2.01 ERA. He threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings in a 2-1 loss to the San Diego Padres on Saturday, the third time this year he has lasted into the eighth without allowing a run.

The White Sox avoided a three-game sweep to the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 12-6 win at home Wednesday. Juan Uribe and Paul Konerko both slugged three-run homers as part of a 10-run sixth inning, helping Jon Garland become the American League's first 11-game winner.

Chicago took two of three games from Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium in 2003 in the only prior regular-season meeting between the teams. Buehrle was the losing pitcher in the opener of that set.
