NY Yankees (92-65) at Baltimore (71-86), 7:05 pm EDT
BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- The New York Yankees will need another strong performance from Shawn Chacon on Wednesday if they want to keep pace in the race for the postseason.Chacon makes a crucial start when the Yankees meet the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday in the third contest of a four-game set. With their disappointing 17-9 loss Tuesday, the Yankees fell into a tie with the Red Sox (92-65) for first place in the American League East Division.Gary Sheffield belted his 11th career grand slam in the fourth inning, but the Orioles rallied for eight unanswered runs in both the fourth and the fifth against a Yankees' bullpen to erase a two-run deficit and snap their season-high nine-game skid.New York has just two contests remaining with Baltimore before travelling to Boston for a crucial three-game weekend set at Fenway Park.Chacon (6-3, 2.89 ERA) has been dominant recently, tossing 16 scoreless frames over his last two outings against Toronto. Since joining the Yankees on July 28, Chacon has allowed three earned runs or less in nine of his 11 starts. The Orioles counter with Daniel Cabrera (10-12, 4.58), who will make his third start this year against the Yankees. The hard-throwing righthander has yielded seven runs - six earned - over his last two outings against New York. After winning six of its first eight games against New York, Baltimore had dropped seven straight before Tuesday's victory. The Yankees have won 13 of their last 16.| New York | Baltimore | |
