Philadelphia (9-13) at Pittsburgh (6-18) 7:05 pm EDT
PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -
Ian Snell helped the
Pittsburgh Pirates
stop the bleeding. Now it is
Paul Maholm's turn to help the
team to its first back-to-back wins in more than two weeks.
One night after snapping a seven-game losing streak, the Pirates
try to make it two in a row Saturday when they continue their
three-game series with the
Philadelphia Phillies.
On Friday, Snell allowed just one unearned run in seven innings
as Pittsburgh posted a 3-1 triumph in the series opener. Jack
Wilson,
Craig Wilson and
Jason Bay each collected two hits and
an RBI for the Pirates, who have not won two straight games
since April 11-12 against the
Los Angeles Dodgers.
Maholm (0-3, 7.40 ERA) will try to keep the Pirates' momentum
going following a start in which he was reached for five runs in
a season-low three innings of a 7-2 defeat against Houston on
Sunday.
The Phillies will give the nod to
Cory Lidle (2-2, 4.74), who
struck out a season-high 10 in 6 2/3 innings of Monday's 6-5 win
against Colorado. The veteran righthander allowed four runs -
three earned - and six hits in perhaps his best start of the
season.
Philadelphia, which managed only six hits in the series opener,
has dropped three of its last four games.
