Florida (11-29) at Tampa Bay (18-24) 7:15 pm EDT
ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- After struggling against
the National League in recent seasons, the Tampa Bay Devil
Rays will try to make it two in a row over the Florida
Marlins on Saturday.
The Devil Rays have dropped 15 of their 18 interleague games
twice in the last three seasons and entered this series with
a seven-game losing streak against the Marlins.
But Tampa Bay began this series with a dramatic 5-4 win when
Toby Hall homered in the ninth inning and
Aubrey Huff homered
in the 10th.
Tampa Bay has won five of its last eight games and will send
Doug Waechter (0-2, 7.04 ERA) to the mound. Waechter has
dropped his last six decisions since his last win on August 27.
Waechter last pitched on May 9 in Seattle. He lasted a
season-high seven-plus innings but was rocked for seven runs and
11 hits.
The Marlins are 29-18 all time against the Devil Rays. But they
have dropped five in a row and 11 of their last 14.
Florida will hand the ball to rookie
Josh Johnson (3-2, 2.93),
who will be making his fifth career start. Johnson is 2-0 with
a 2.25 ERA in his last three starts and has allowed just four
runs and 12 hits in that span.
