Royals try to snap an 11-game losing streak vs. Tigers

Detroit (31-14) at Kansas City (10-33) 8:10 pm EDT

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - Other than sharing a spot in the American League Central Division, the Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers have little in common.

The Royals look to end their 11-game losing streak Wednesday when they meet the Tigers in the third contest of a four-game series.

Kansas City is 20 games behind the Tigers in the division standings and has dropped all six meetings against them this year. The Royals are in the midst of their second losing streak of at least 10 games this season.

The Royals' Jimmy Gobble (0-0, 5.14 ERA) makes his first start of the season after 16 relief appearances because Mark Redman has tightness in his left forearm. In his only outing against the Tigers this season, he worked one inning on April 5.

Detroit looks to build upon baseball's best record with Jeremy Bonderman (4-3, 4.66) on the hill. He suffered his first loss since April 15 in Friday's outing against the Cincinnati Reds after giving up seven runs and six hits in three frames.

Carlos Guillen belted a two-run homer and the Tigers scored four times in the eighth inning for their 11th win in 12 games, an 8-5 triumph over the Royals on Tuesday.
