Keppel again tries for first major league win vs. Astros

Kansas City (18-48) at Houston (35-33) 7:05 pm EDT

HOUSTON (Ticker) -- In order to record his first major league victory, Bobby Keppel needs to overcome a hurdle in the late innings.

Keppel again takes the mound for the Kansas City Royals, who look for their third win in four road games Saturday when they continue their interleague series against the Houston Astros.

Making his fourth start of the season, Keppel (0-2, 3.04 ERA) tossed six scoreless innings on June 2 against the Seattle Mariners and took a shutout into the eighth against the Texas Rangers five days later. However, he failed to win both contests.

In his last outing on Monday, Keppel was tagged for four runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The Astros counter with Taylor Buchholz (3-6, 6.06), who has dropped his last three decisions. He yielded four runs and seven hits in eight innings of last Saturday's defeat to the Atlanta Braves.

Scott Elarton retired the first 16 batters he faced and Emil Brown drove in four runs as Kansas City won for the eighth time in 37 road games with Friday's 7-2 triumph over Houston.

Craig Biggio, who has a lifetime .320 batting average in interleague play, collected two RBI for Houston, which has won four of five.
