Florida (31-39) at NY Yankees (41-30) 4:05 pm EDT

BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- New York's much maligned Alex Rodriguez silenced his critics, for now.

Rodriguez looks to follow up a stellar effort when the Yankees and the Florida Marlins face each other in the middle game of a weekend interleague series on Saturday.

In Friday's opener, Rodriguez had three hits, an RBI and scored a run in a 6-5 victory.

It was the sixth three-hit game of the season and the first since May 31 at Detroit for Rodriguez, who was criticized after going 6-for-35 (.171) in the club's last homestand.

Despite the loss, Florida is 10-2 in its last 12 games.

Rookie Josh Johnson (6-4, 2.01 ERA), who has been consistent all season, takes the hill for the Marlins. In his last two starts, Johnson has only allowed two runs in 11 2/3 innings. His only poor performance this season was a 6-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs on April 24 when he was tagged for four runs in an inning of relief.

Shawn Chacon (4-1, 5.89) starts for the Yankees. Since a decent outing against the Boston Red Sox on May 11, the righthander he has gotten hammered, giving up 19 runs and 18 hits in 10 2/3 innings.

In an 11-9 loss at the Washington Nationals last Saturday, Chacon surrendered six runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings but luckily did not figure in the decision.

Florida manager Joe Girardi faces his former team for the second time. Since 1990, ex-Yankee players who have managed against New York are 4-8 in their first game as a manager against the Bronx Bombers.

The Yankees have won three straight after three consecutive losses.
