Pittsburgh (26-50) at LA Dodgers (39-35) 4:10 pm EDT
LOS ANGELES (Ticker) --
Pittsburgh Pirates manager Jim Tracy can
only look towards the opposing dugout and wonder what might have
been.
Trying to avoid a sweep against his former team, Tracy hopes his
Pirates can snap a 10-game losing streak when they face the Los
Angeles Dodgers on Sunday.
Pittsburgh's skid is the team's longest since 1968. The
Pirates' worst run in the modern era is a 12-game slide in 1939.
Tracy's visit to the city where he managed the previous five
seasons has not been a pleasant one. The Pirates dropped a 10-4
decision on Friday and were routed, 7-0, on Saturday.
Pittsburgh managed only seven hits against
Aaron Sele and three
relievers. Rookie
Andre Ethier collected two hits and four RBI
for the Dodgers, who have won three straight and sit in a
first-place tie with San Diego in the NL West.
Los Angeles will try and extend Pittsburgh's misery behind Brad
Penny (7-2, 2.83 ERA), who suffered his first loss in nine
starts his last time out. The righthander yielded season highs
of five runs and 10 hits in Tuesday's 9-4 loss to Seattle.
Kip Wells (0-1, 16.20) takes the ball for the Pirates as he
makes his second start of the season. After missing the first
three-plus months of the year following surgery to repair a
blood clot in his arm, Wells surrendered six runs in 3 1/3
frames of Tuesday's 10-6 loss against Kansas City.
