Clemens makes fourth start of 2006 as Astros host Cardinals

St Louis (46-39) at Houston (43-44) 4:05 pm EDT

HOUSTON (Ticker) - Roger Clemens looks to build off his first victory of the season on Saturday when he takes the hill for the Houston Astros in the third contest of a weekend series with the St. Louis Cardinals.

After not receiving a single run of support while on the mound in his first two starts, Clemens (1-2, 2.76 ERA) was backed by first-inning home runs from Craig Biggio and Lance Berkman in his last outing. Clemens responded by allowing two runs in five innings to pick up his 342nd career win, matching Tim Keefe for eighth on the all-time list.

Clemens will try and ride that momentum into Saturday's contest with the Cardinals, against whom he owns a 4-1 record with a 2.51 ERA in nine career starts. He faced them in Game Three of last year's NL Championship Series, allowing two runs in six innings en route to a 4-3 victory.

Less than one month shy of his 44th birthday, Clemens will be opposed by 24-year-old Anthony Reyes (1-3, 3.30), who has fewer career starts (six) than Clemens has Cy Young Awards (seven).

Reyes has dropped three straight starts, posting his worst outing in that stretch Monday. The righthander surrendered five runs and six hits - including three home runs - in five innings in a 6-3 loss to Atlanta.

Houston captured Thursday's series opener, 4-2, before dropping an 8-2 decision on Friday. Morgan Ensberg hit a solo home run and Preston Wilson added an RBI double for the Astros, who had won five of six.

The Cardinals received 7 2/3 strong innings from Jason Marquis and three hits from Gary Bennett as they won for just the second time in their last 12 road games.
