Garcia looks to continue dominance of Angels

Chi White Sox (83-62) at LA Angels (78-67) 3:35 pm EDT

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Freddy Garcia has yet to lose at Angel Stadium as a member of the Chicago White Sox. His continued success here Wednesday could prove pivotal to the defending champions' chances of reaching the postseason.

Garcia seeks a fifth straight win here - including postseason - as the White Sox play the rubber match of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Chicago endured a 4-3, 11-inning loss here on Tuesday, ending a seven-game winning streak at Angel Stadium that began with last season's American League Championship Series. With the setback, the White Sox fell 2 1/2 games behind Minnesota in the chase for the AL wild card and four games off the pace in the AL Central.

Since being acquired from Seattle in a 2004 trade, Garcia (13-9, 5.02 ERA) has posted a 2.74 ERA in winning all three starts here - including a six-hitter to lead the White Sox to an 8-2 triumph in Game Four of the 2005 ALCS. In 23 regular-season meetings with the Angels, Garcia has gone 13-3 with a 2.66 ERA.

With its deficit in the AL West trimmed to 4 1/2 games, Anaheim turns to rookie Joe Saunders (5-2, 3.76). In his last start Friday, Saunders allowed one run and five hits in 7 2/3 innings of a 4-1 win here against Toronto.

Saunders has gone 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA in six home starts this season, pitching at least seven innings four times. The lefthander is making his first career appearance against the White Sox.

The Angels have won eight of their last 10 games, improving to 27-12 in September the last two seasons.
