As the Philadelphia Phillies continue to surge, the Florida Marlins remain in a freefall.

Looking for his fifth straight winning start at home, Cliff Lee tries to help the Phillies extend their season-high winning streak to seven and sweep the Marlins, who have dropped six in a row.

After rolling to a 9-1 win over Florida on Tuesday, Philadelphia (43-26) swept a doubleheader from the Marlins on Wednesday. Jimmy Rollins' three-run homer highlighted an 8-1 win in the opener and Carlos Ruiz had a run-scoring single in the 10th inning to give the Phillies a 5-4 comeback victory in the nightcap.

"Things happen for you when you're going good," said Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, whose team has won nine of 11.

The Phillies have not swept a series of more than three games from Florida since doing so in a rare five-game set June 28-July 1, 2001.

Florida (32-36) has lost 16 of 18, and gone from two games back to 10 1/2 behind the NL-East leading Phillies in 11 days. The Marlins led 4-2 in the ninth of the nightcap before Shane Victorino forced extra innings with a two-run single.

"You've got to get the win," said Florida left fielder Logan Morrison, who is 2 for 13 in the series. "Good teams find a way and we're not a good team right now."

The Marlins could have a tough time avoiding the sweep against Lee (6-5, 3.41 ERA), who has allowed five runs and struck out 35 in 31 innings to win his last four starts at Citizens Bank Park. He gave up a run and four hits in eight innings of a 7-1 win over Chicago on Saturday.

"Sometimes you get locked in and I'm hoping I'm getting into that," Lee said. "But there's always something to work on, always something to get better at."

Lee has only fanned 14 while going 1-0 with a 4.24 ERA in three starts versus Florida. The left-hander gave up three runs and struck out four in six innings of a 5-3 win at Florida on May 11.

Florida All-Star Hanley Ramirez is 4 for 6 with a homer versus Lee, but 1 for 8 in two games this series after missing two weeks with a strained lower back.

Javier Vazquez (3-6, 7.09) looks to avoid a third consecutive losing start when he takes the mound for the Marlins on Thursday.

Vazquez looked like he was on the verge of a turnaround when he went 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA in his final two starts of May. However, he's allowed 17 runs and 21 hits in 13 2/3 innings while going 0-2 in three June starts. He surrendered seven runs in 3 2/3 innings of a 9-5 loss to Arizona on Saturday.

"I wish I can explain it, it's just frustrating," Vazquez said. "Finally, when I am feeling much better and my velocity is there, feel I'm aggressive, things are not working."

Things did not work for the right-hander in a 6-4 loss to the Phillies on May 9 when he allowed six runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings to fall to 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in two starts against them this season.

Rollins has two homers and six RBIs in the series, but is a lifetime .212 hitter with three home runs versus Vazquez.
