CHICAGO (AP) -- Tomas Perez got the big hit and did a great job on the bases. But none of it might have happened without left fielder Moises Alou's first error of the season.

Perez hit a bases-loaded triple and then made a daring dash home in the eighth inning, rallying the Philadelphia Phillies over the Chicago Cubs 6-2 Thursday.

With one out in the eighth and the Phillies trailing 2-1, Pat Burrell drew a walk from Kyle Farnsworth (3-2). Scott Rolen followed with a fly that Alou reached without trouble, but he made a small hop and the ball bounced off his glove.

"I should have made the catch,'' said Alou, who has made only three errors since the start of the 2001 season. "It wasn't easy, but once I get there, I have to make the play. I do take the blame.''

Phillies manager Larry Bowa didn't think Alou's ball was an error.

"But I'm not the official scorer,'' Bowa said.

Travis Lee was intentionally walked to load the bases, which brought up Perez, who had been 0-for-13 against the Cubs in his career. Perez lined a 1-0 pitch into the right-field corner for a 4-2 lead.

When the next batter, Jimmy Rollins, struck out on a ball in the dirt and Cubs catcher Todd Hundley threw to first, Perez streaked for the plate. Fred McGriff's return throw was too late, and Perez scored on what was ruled a fielder's choice.

"I saw it coming when (Hundley) lobbed it,'' Bowa said. "I don't slip anything past Tomas. He's got great instincts.''

Perez said he was going no matter what.

''(Hundley) checked to third base, and he threw the ball slow to first base,'' Perez said. "So I said, 'This is my time to go.'''

Cubs manager Bruce Kimm defended both Alou and Hundley.

''(Moises) is such a great fielder that anytime something happens, you figure it was a tough play,'' Kimm said. "Sometimes, it looks a little easier than it is.''

As for Hundley, Kimm said the catcher had other options on the dropped third strike, but didn't say what they were.

"There's possibilities, but everything happens fast out there,'' Kimm said. "It probably didn't make a difference in the ballgame anyway.''

Carlos Silva (2-0) pitched two innings as the Phillies won their third straight after losing the series opener at Wrigley Field.

Burrell hit an RBI single in the ninth to push the score to 6-2.

Fred McGriff hit his 470th career home run for the Cubs.

Phillies starter Brandon Duckworth gave up three hits in the first inning -- including McGriff's 22nd homer -- but none after that.

"You get two runs in the first, you figure you're going to get a couple more,'' Kimm said.

Duckworth had two walks in the second, but allowed no more Cubs to reach base. He gave up two runs over six innings, with five strikeouts and two walks.

The Phillies rallied for a run in the sixth on Lee's RBI single off Jeff Fassero.

Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano, who threw 109 pitches, allowed a run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out eight and walked one. He has a 2.45 ERA in five starts since being put in the rotation July 1.

Former Cubs OF Dave Kingman, who hit 442 career homers in 16 seasons, sang "Take Me Out to the Ball Game.'' Also, a 1979 replica baseball card of Kingman's was passed out to 20,000 of the 34,565 fans. ... A light mist fell for the first six innings. ... Duckworth, who had a 5.68 ERA in his previous three starts, last won July 1 against the Mets. ... McGriff has eight homers and 21 RBI in his last 19 games. ... The Phillies won the season series, 4-2.
