    New York wins fifth straight

NEW YORK (AP) -- Placido Polanco's sacrifice fly scored Jason Michaels with the go-ahead run in the 11th inning Saturday, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Mets 4-2 for their fifth straight victory.

Tyler Houston homered in his first game back from the disabled list and Jim Thome hit an RBI double for the Phillies. They added another run in the 11th on an error by New York shortstop Jose Reyes.

Rookie Jeff Duncan homered for the Mets, who have dropped six in a row since a three-game sweep in Cincinnati last weekend.

Michaels singled with one out in the 11th off John Franco, the fifth New York pitcher, and went to third on Marlon Byrd's single to left.

After Polanco's sacrifice fly, Franco (0-1) walked Thome. Bobby Abreu's grounder then went through Reyes' legs, allowing Byrd to score.

Jose Mesa (4-5) pitched two scoreless innings for the victory, escaping a two-on, one-out jam in the 10th.

With the Mets out of healthy position players, pitcher Tom Glavine stepped to the plate as a pinch-hitter for reliever Graeme Lloyd with two outs and a runner on third in the 11th. Glavine grounded out to shortstop to end the game.

Philadelphia blew a great chance to take the lead in the 10th. Thome led off with a double and went to third on a groundout. Jimmy Rollins hit a grounder to third baseman Ty Wigginton, who tagged Thome for the second out as he tried to scamper back to the bag.

Thome's RBI double gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead in the first inning off Mets starter Jae Weong Seo.

Duncan, who had four hits -- all singles -- in his first seven major league at-bats, homered off Phillies starter Brandon Duckworth in the bottom half to tie the score at 1.

Houston put the Phillies back in front in the sixth when he hit his second homer of the season, a solo shot.

New York tied it in the eighth on Raul Gonzalez's two-out RBI single off Turk Wendell. The hit scored Reyes, who singled, but Jeromy Burnitz was thrown out at the plate on the play.

Seo, who has lost three straight decisions since June 17, allowed seven hits and two runs in six innings with two walks and four strikeouts.

Duckworth, winless in his last eight starts, gave up only one run on five hits in 5 1-3 innings with two walks and five strikeouts.

    Game notes

The Mets activated LHP Mike Stanton from the 15-day disabled list and optioned LHP Jaime Cerda to Triple-A Norfolk. ... Houston replaced 3B David Bell on the Philadelphia roster. Bell was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained lower back after Friday night's game.
