CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) -- The Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers still need work on hitting and fielding. They have no trouble hitting batters with pitches.

Carlos Guillen hit a three-run triple, leading Detroit to a 5-1 victory over the Phillies on Monday night in a game in which four batters were hit by pitches.

Tigers starter Nate Cornejo and manager Alan Trammell were ejected after Cornejo hit Ricky Ledee with his first pitch in the sixth inning.

Both teams were warned after Phillies starter Vicente Padilla hit Carlos Pena in the top of the inning. Pena started walking toward the mound, but was stopped by catcher Todd Pratt.

Cornejo hit Pratt in the first, and Rheal Cormier hit Brandon Inge in the seventh.

"I guess they thought Padilla was trying to hit Pena. I know he was trying to pitch inside," Phillies manager Larry Bowa said.

Cornejo allowed one run and five hits in five innings, and Pena went 2-for-2.

Ledee hit a homer and double, and Padilla allowed three runs and five hits in six innings. Closer Billy Wagner allowed two runs in the ninth after striking out the side in a save against Toronto on Sunday.

After Pena was hit to load the bases in the sixth, Guillen hit a bases-clearing triple to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.

"As far as just trying to bond, I don't really know," Trammell said when asked if he was pleased Cornejo stuck up for his teammates.

Guillen, acquired in a trade with Seattle, is hitting .318 (14-for-44) with three triples and a homer this spring.

Ledee, who has been bothered by an Achilles' heel injury this spring, came in hitting .185 with 11 strikeouts in 27 at-bats. His one-out homer in the second inning off Cornejo gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead. He led off the fifth inning with a double, but was stranded.

Once a top prospect with the New York Yankees, Ledee has adjusted to his bench role with the Phillies. He hit .247 with 13 homers and 46 RBI in 255 at-bats last season, his second in Philadelphia.

Padilla has been the Phillies' best starter this spring, compiling a 2.52 ERA. In 25 innings, he has allowed seven runs and 18 hits, walking five and striking out 15.

Padilla doesn't speak to reporters. The right-hander won 14 games and made the All-Star game in first full season as a starter in 2002. He went 14-12 with a 3.62 ERA last season.

Game notes
Philadelphia's Jim Thome started at first base for the second straight game since returning after breaking the tip of his middle finger on his right hand March 5. He went 1-for-2 with a walk, and made an outstanding, diving catch to his left to end the third inning. Thome will not make the trip to Bradenton with the team on Tuesday. He'll stay in Clearwater and hit in a minor league game. ... Phillies INF Tomas Perez, who had been sidelined with a sore toe, played second base. ... The Tigers sent RHP Shane Loux to the minors, bringing their roster total to 34.
