ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Hank Blalock homered twice, Kenny Rogers
earned his 15th win and the Texas Rangers extended their winning
streak to six games with a 5-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians
on Wednesday night.
Blalock went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in the fourth and a
two-run shot in the sixth, breaking out of a 10-for-64 slide
spanning his previous 19 games. He had gone 28 games without a
homer since July 19.
Blalock's wife, Misty, was in labor at a hospital Wednesday
night awaiting the birth of their first child.
Rogers (15-5) allowed two runs and eight hits in six effective
innings to move within two wins of matching his career high -- he
went 17-7 for Texas in 1995. The left-hander struck out three and
didn't issue a walk.
Francisco Cordero got three outs for his 37th save in 39
chances. Ron Mahay, Carlos Almanzar and Cordero combined for three
innings of scoreless relief, keeping Texas just a half-game behind
first-place Oakland in the AL West.
David Dellucci hit a two-run homer in the first to spark the
offense and the Rangers completed a three-game sweep of the
Indians, who dropped their fourth in a row and fell 4½ games behind
first-place Minnesota in the AL Central.
Mark Teixeira, who became the second Rangers player to hit for
the cycle Tuesday night, arrived at the ballpark with an upset
stomach and went 1-for-4 with a double.
Indians starter Scott Elarton (2-3) allowed three homers and
left in the sixth trailing 5-2. Elarton gave up five runs and eight
hits in 5 1-3 innings. He struck out five.
Casey Blake homered for the Indians, who finished 1-8 against
Texas this season.
Texas took a 2-0 lead in the first when Alfonso Soriano struck
out but reached first on a wild pitch, and Dellucci followed with
his 12th homer.
Cleveland made it 2-1 in the third on Omar Vizquel's RBI single,
then tied it at 2 in the fourth on Blake's 21st homer.
Texas went back in front 3-2 when Blalock's drive down the
right-field line glanced off the outside of the foul pole.
In the sixth, Teixeira doubled and Blalock hit his 26th homer to
push Texas' lead to 5-2.
Texas' six-game winning streak is its second-longest of the
season. The Rangers won eight straight from June 18-26. ...

right elbow. ... Dellucci's homer made him 8-for-12 in his career
against Elarton with three homers. ... Rogers picked Jody Gerut off
first in the fifth, his fifth pickoff of the season. ... Texas is
38-19 at home, the best home record in club history after 57 games.
