Benson vs. Estes in Game 1

DENVER -- Heavy rains washed out Wednesday night's game
between the New York Mets and the Colorado Rockies before it ever
started.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday.

Slow-moving thunderstorms hit Coors Field three hours before the
game's scheduled start and hadn't let up two hours later. Several
flood warnings were issued throughout the Denver area as the storms
stalled along the foothills and over downtown, flooding streets and
leaving motorists stranded.

Both teams took batting practice indoors, but the rain never let
up. The game was called about 75 minutes before its scheduled
start.

Wednesday's scheduled starters -- New York's Kris Benson and
Colorado's Shawn Estes -- will start the first game Thursday.

Colorado's Jeff Fassero will face Al Leiter in the nightcap.
