Game notes
The Cubs optioned RHP Todd Wellemeyer to Triple-A Iowa and recalled RHP Roberto Novoa before Saturday's game. This will be the third stint this season with the Cubs for Novoa, who is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in eight relief appearances. Wellemeyer, who allowed five runs 2 1/3 innings of relief Friday, was 2-1 with a 4.74 ERA in two stints with the Cubs. ... Maddux needs two wins to tie Gaylord Perry for 16th place. ... Pablo Ozuna started his fifth straight game at shortstop for the White Sox, with Juan Uribe nursing a sore back. ... The back-to-back homers by Everett and Dye were the first for the White Sox since June 8, when Joe Crede and Frank Thomas hit consecutive shots against Colorado.
