Greinke pitches the Royals to sweep of Tigers

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Thanks to a solid outing by
Zack Greinke, the Kansas City Royals once again avoided loss No.
100.

Zack Greinke pitched seven strong innings as the Royals recorded
a 4-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers in the second game of a
doubleheader.

Combined with a 5-4 triumph in the opener, Kansas City completed
its first doubleheader sweep in two years and won its third
straight game to remain a 99 losses this season.

After going 2-10 in 14 starts, Greinke (5-16) is unbeaten in
four September starts. The righthander yielded two runs and six
hits in seven innings, striking out four without a walk.

Jeremy Affeldt worked around a walk in the eighth and Mike
MacDougal allowed a single hit in the ninth for his 20th save.

Nate Robertson (6-15) suffered his fifth straight loss,
surrendering three runs and six hits in seven innings.

Emil Brown belted his 15th homer in the third inning to give the
Royals a 3-0 lead. He had three hits in the doubleheader and
is 13-for-34 in his last nine contests.

Rookie Chip Ambres added his third home run of the season in the
fifth against Robertson.

Vance Wilson had an RBI double in the fifth and a run-scoring
grounder in the seventh for Detroit, which has lost six straight
games.
