PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -- Jeff Baker hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to help Colorado beat the Seattle Mariners 8-5, strengthening his case to make the Rockies as a reserve outfielder.

Baker, a natural infielder, has four home runs this spring and his first six hits in the Cactus League went for extra bases. His 13 RBI are tied for the team lead. Choo Freeman, Jorge Piedra and Jeff Salazar are also in the mix for an outfield spot.

"I'm sure management has tough decisions to make on some of their utility players," Baker said Sunday. "I have to keep focused on what I'm doing, making the adjustment to the outfield, and trying to get some base knocks."

The Rockies pushed across five runs in the sixth inning against Seattle pitcher Jesse Foppert, who allowed three hits and walked three in one inning. The Mariners led 5-2 after four innings.

"(Jesse) has been inconsistent and that's a concern," Seattle manager Mike Hargrove said. "He's had four outings this spring. Half have been good and half bad, and it seems to alternate. We need to address the issue of inconsistency."

Rockies starter Jose Acevedo, also fighting for a roster position, gave up five runs and nine hits in four innings.
