DENVER (AP) -- Matt Holliday knew a little about San Diego reliever Jon Adkins when he faced him in the 11th inning Tuesday night.
"I know him on a personal level because he was my brother's roommate in college," Holliday said. "He played for my dad, and pitched with my brother, Josh."Holliday responded with a two-out single led the Colorado Rockies over the Padres 3-2.With the score 2-2, Todd Helton drew a one-out walk off Adkins (0-1) in the 11th, and moved to second on Garrett Atkins' flyout to left. Holliday singled to right for Colorado's sixth hit, and Helton beat Brian Giles' throw to the plate."It was a slider, I think it was down, and it got a good portion of the plate, and I got the best of Jon Adkins tonight," Holliday said. "We needed it, and it felt good to win that one."Holliday's father and brother were both at Oklahoma State when Adkins played there from 1996-98. Tom Holliday was the manager, while Josh was a pitcher. Tom is now the pitching coach at Texas and Josh is hitting coach at Georgia Tech.Matt Holliday was 0-for-4 in his previous game."Matt has had his ups and downs the last few games," Colorado manager Clint Hurdle said. "He delivered the big hit for us so this couldn't have come at a better time for him."David Cortes (1-0) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the win. Five relievers combined to allow one run and six hits in 4 2/3 innings."Everybody that took the mound today was really good," Hurdle said.Colorado starter Josh Fogg allowed a run and five hits in 6 1/3 innings. San Diego's Clay Hensley gave up one run and two hits in four innings.Josh Barfield had three hits and scored two runs for the Padres.Fogg retired his first 10 batters before Barfield tripled off

Gonzalez blooped a two-out single.Holliday tied it with a sacrifice fly in the fourth after
Helton's double, and the Rockies went ahead in the fifth against
Brian Sweeney on Clint Barmes' sacrifice fly following Danny
Ardoin's double.Mike Piazza's double off Jose Mesa tied it a 2-all in the

The Padres' Dave Roberts made his first start of the year
in left field. ... Gonzalez saved a run in the fourth inning when
the first baseman ran down Freeman's blooper down the right-field
line. ... Rockies RHP Sunny Kim went on the 15-day DL with a
bruised right shin. RHP Scott Dohmann was activated from the DL.
... Colorado RHP Mike DeJean (right shoulder inflammation) began
light throwing. ... Barmes drew his first walk in 61 at-bats.
