MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota Twins were happy to have Shannon Stewart back.

The Twins recorded their 19th win in the past 21 games with a 10-7 victory over the Brewers. But when Milwaukee took a 3-2 lead in the third inning, it marked the end of a span of 63 innings during which Minnesota never trailed. That equaled the team's longest streak since moving to Minnesota, and it was two innings short of the franchise record set by the Washington Senators in 1923. For more from Elias Says, click here.

Derrick Turnbow's bases loaded walk to Stewart in the eighth forced home the go-ahead run and helped the Minnesota Twins extend their winning streak to nine games with a 10-7 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday night.

Stewart, who had been on the disabled list since May 22 with plantar fascia, also had four hits, and will add to a Twins lineup in the middle of a hot streak.

"That's a good veteran bat to get back in our lineup," said Twins third baseman Nick Punto, who finished 1-for-3. "Any time you add a .300 hitter to your lineup, that's a good thing."

Trailing 7-6 in the eighth inning, Michael Cuddyer had an RBI triple to tie the game. Turnbow (4-4) then intentionally walked Justin Morneau and hit Torii Hunter with a pitch to load the bases. Stewart then walked forcing in a run before Jason Kubel's two-run single made it 10-7.

Juan Rincon (3-0) got two outs for the victory. Joe Nathan worked the ninth for his 14th save.

The Twins, who have won 19 of their last 21 games, pounded out 17 hits.

"It was horrible," Turnbow said. "I was horrible out there tonight and they made me pay for it."

Although Kubel finished with a career-high four hits, he lost a ball in the Metrodome roof and misjudged a fly ball that contributed to Milwaukee rallies.

After Brady Clark and Rickie Weeks reached base to start the third, Geoff Jenkins lifted a high fly ball to left. The ball fell a few feet behind Kubel after he lost it in the Metrodome's Teflon roof. Hunter kicked the ball trying to pick it up, allowing Clark to score, Weeks to advance to third and Jenkins to second.

Weeks scored on Carlos Lee's RBI single and Jenkins trotted home on Prince Fielder's sacrifice fly to the center-field wall, giving the Brewers a 3-2 lead.

"We got the win, that's all that matters," Kubel said. "Every now and then I have trouble seeing the ball. I don't know what the deal is with that. I'm still trying to get used to it."

It was the first time the Twins trailed since a 1-0 deficit in the top of the second inning on June 23 against the Chicago Cubs. That lead lasted only a half-inning and so did this one.

Hunter and Kubel made up for their defensive blunders with RBI singles, and rookie Jason Bartlett added an RBI double, giving the Twins a 5-3 lead after the third. Joe Mauer's second hit of the game extended the Twins' lead in the fourth.

Milwaukee claimed the lead again in the fifth. The first three Brewers' reached base, with Bill Hall scoring on Lee's single.

Kubel's second defensive blunder on Fielder's line drive allowed another run to score. Kubel started back on the ball, then sprinted forward after realizing he misjudged it. The ball fell a few feet in front of Kubel and bounced off his glove.

Damian Miller's single scored Lee and Gabe Gross drove in Fielder with a sacrifice fly, giving the Brewers a 7-6 lead.

It was the first time in 11 straight home wins the Twins have given up more than three runs.

"A lot of hits, a lot of balls that weren't really centered," Brewers manager Ned Yost said. "A lot of balls found holes and it's just one of those games."

"(Milwaukee) brought in Turnbow and I thought, 'wow, this can't be good," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire added. "But wow, what a great ball game. This win was huge for us tonight."

Gardenhire also was happy to have Stewart back.

"You saw what he brings to this lineup. It's great to have him back."

Brewers' starter Chris Capuano failed to last at least six innings for the first time all season. He allowed six runs in four innings and tied a season-high, giving up 11 hits.

"These games are going to happen," Capuano said. "This is major league baseball. I just didn't have it tonight. Everything I threw was up and everything went wrong."

Twins starter Carlos Silva lasted 4 1-3 innings, allowing five earned runs and nine hits.

Game notes

Saturday's outing broke a string of five consecutive quality starts for Capuano. He now has a quality start in 16 of 18 games. ... The Twins had two eight-game winning streaks in June, the first time in franchise history they have tallied two eight-game wining streaks in the same month. ... Mauer leads all major league catchers in hits, batting average, doubles, runs, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
