PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Chase Field has never been a nice place to
visit for the San Diego Padres.

San Diego hopes to win for the sixth time in eight games and
creep closer to the top spot in the National League West
Division on Monday in the opener of a three-game series with the
Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Padres lost two of three to Arizona in their last trip here
from May 15-17 after dropping six of nine here last year. They
are just 20-49 here all-time.

Woody Williams (7-4, 3.60 ERA) looks to win his fourth
consecutive start for San Diego. After beating Arizona on
August 18, he allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings of
Wednesday's triumph over the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers.

Adrian Gonzalez belted his 21st home run and Brian Giles added
his 11th for the Padres in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Colorado
Rockies. San Diego trails the Dodgers by two games in the
NL West.

The Diamondbacks counter with Brandon Webb (13-5, 2.99), who
picked up a win against San Diego on April 24. He did not get
a decision in his last outing when he gave up three runs and
four hits in five frames Tuesday against San Francisco.

Eric Byrnes collected three hits and Orlando Hudson and Chad
Tracy added two each for the Diamondbacks, who lost for the
sixth time in seven games with Sunday's 6-3 defeat to the
Dodgers.
