• Summary: John Lackey pitched his way out of four jams in five innings while Casey Kotchman's solo shot gave the Angels all the offense they would need in a 4-1 over the Rangers.
• Figure this: Sammy Sosa went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in his first MLB appearance since 2005. He did not hit the ball out of the infield. • Did you see that?: Gary Matthews Jr.'s snow-cone catch at the wall ended a Rangers rally in the first. But then Matthews, who left Texas for L.A. after last season, was booed for dropping a routine fly in the third. • Curtain Call: Troy Percival, the Angels' career saves leader, signed a one-day contract so that he could retire as an Angel. Prior to the game, Percival ran in from the bullpen to Bob Seger's "Still the Same" playing over the PA and threw out the first pitch to ex-batterymate Jose Molina. After the ball slammed into Molina's glove, the videoboard flashed "Radar Gun: 101 mph." -- ESPN.com news services |
Angels 4, Rangers 1

RHP Jered Washburn, recovering from tendinitis in his right forearm, is scheduled to start for the same team on Friday.
