The Royals opened the season with only nine players who were on the 2006 opening-day roster and only one pitcher, left-hander Jimmy Gobble. ... It figured that Monroe would get his first hit of the season in Kansas City. The Tigers outfielder came into the game batting .319 with nine doubles, nine homers and 28 RBIs in 37 games in Kauffman Stadium. ... The Royals were 0-9 at home against Detroit last year.
