W: M. Batista (1-1)
L: V. Padilla (0-3)
|
• Summary: Miguel Batista gave the Mariners 6 2/3 innings worth of strong work from the mound, and the Rangers' defense was nowhere to be found in Seattle's 8-3 win over Texas.
• Hero: Well-rested from the series of postponements the Mariners have been forced to endure, Batista became only the third Mariners starter to log a win this year, allowing three runs. • Unsung Hero: Nearly forgotten superstar Sammy Sosa banged a two-run home run -- career No. 590 -- off Batista with one out in the sixth inning to bring the Rangers within three runs of the Mariners. • Quotable: "You couldn't even write a letter to God and tell him you're mad at him." -- Batista, on who to blame for his 10-day layoff between starts. -- ESPN.com news services |
Mariners 8, Rangers 3
Game notes
Beltre is 4-for-20 in his career against Padilla. All four hits are home runs. ... Heavy rain started falling in the top of the fifth, but it took about 10 minutes for the stadium's retractable roof to close. Fans scattered into the covered concourses until the roof was fully extended. ... Texas committed at least two errors in a game for the third time this season. The other two times were April 2 and 3 against the Angels.
