• Summary: Alex Rodriguez hit his ninth home run of the year, and the Yankees beat up on Indians starter Jeremy Sowers.
• Hero: Alex Rodriguez connected off reliever Tom Mastny in the sixth for his major league-leading homer. A-Rod was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts before the two-run drive to left field. • Figure this I: A-Rod continues to gain on Albert Pujols' 2006 major-league record for the most homers hit in the month of April (14). Rodriguez, who's hit nine in 52 at-bats, is five away from tying Pujols with 11 games left in the month. • Figure this II: New York has outscored Cleveland 19-5 and outhit the Indians 24-10 in the opening two games of the three-game series. • Quotable: "I haven't seen anything like it before. It's like everything he hits is a home run. Tonight he hit one out with one hand. I can't relate because I can't do it." -- Derek Jeter on A-Rod's ninth HR. • Elias Says: The major-league record for fewest team games needed to reach nine homers is 10, shared by Mike Schmidt (1976 Phillies) and Luis Gonzalez (2001 Diamondbacks). -- ESPN.com news services |

Igawa started an inning-ending double play on Casey Blake's comebacker in the sixth. ... Giambi's home run off Aaron Fultz gave New York consecutive homers for the first time this year. ...
