• Summary: Darin Erstad hit a go-ahead single in the seventh inning off Jason Grilli, and the White Sox tamed the Tigers 5-4 to win their third straight game.
• Turning point: After the Tigers had taken a 4-1 lead in the fifth, Paul Konerko hit a sharp, two-run single off Grilli to even the score at 4-4.
• Figure this: Detroit's slumping Gary Sheffield is hitting just .125 with a home run and 5 RBIs. • Goat: Grilli, who faced eight batters in 1 2/3 innings and gave up three hits and two walks to blow the lead. • Quotable: "He'll get it going. You have to remember, he didn't play a lot last season." -- Jim Leyland on Sheffield's hitting woes.
• Elias Says: ChiSox infielders Tad Iguchi and Juan Uribe each hit homers -- the 5th time in three years together in Chicago that they each homered in the same game. |

Game notes
Detroit placed RHP Jose Mesa on the 15-day disabled list because of a pulled right groin and recalled RHP Aquilino Lopez from its Triple-A affiliate in Toledo to replace Mesa on the roster. It was Mesa's first time on the disabled list since 1991. ... White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle had a little fun with Rodriguez when the catcher caught Jermaine Dye's foul pop in the second, in front of the Chicago dugout and Buehrle. Rodriguez's glove was right at the top railing when he caught it, and Buehrle then tried to take the ball out of Rodriguez's glove. Rodriguez pulled back his glove and slapped at Buehrle's hands as both players laughed. ... The game was played before an announced sellout of 40,685.
