• Summary: Ken Griffey Jr.'s 568th career homer, a two-run shot, moved him one behind Rafael Palmeiro for ninth on the all-time home run list. But Lance Berkman's two-run homer pulled the Astros ahead 6-5 in the seventh.
• Turning point: Brandon Phillips homered in the bottom of the ninth to slim the Reds' decifit to a run with Griffey stepping to the plate. But Astros closer Dan Wheeler got Griffey to ground out, avoiding a potential Reds rally. • Figure this: Berkman's homer was his 14th at Great American Ball Park, the most by any opponent. • Quotable: "[Coming from behind] is a great trait to have. Once you do that a few times, you start to believe." -- Houston manager Phil Garner • Elias Says: Berkman has now hit 37 home runs against the Reds since the 2000 season, the most by any player against any team over that span. -- ESPN.com news services |
Astros 7, Reds 6
