Royals 11, White Sox 1

CHICAGO (AP) -- Pink bats were all the rage around the major leagues on Sunday. The Kansas City Royals might not want to put theirs away.

Using the pink lumber to promote breast cancer awareness on Mother's Day, David DeJesus matched a career high with four hits and the Royals beat the White Sox 11-1 for a rare victory in Chicago.

DeJesus acknowledged he would love to keep using those pink bats, which will be auctioned for charity.

"I haven't gotten some hits in a while, so those four hits are definitely big for me," he said.

Jorge De La Rosa pitched seven sharp innings for Kansas City and Mark Teahen's three-run homer in the fifth off Javier Vazquez broke a 1-all tie. The Royals matched their season high for runs and hits (15) set April 20 against Minnesota. It was Teahen's fourth homer of the season and first since May 1.

"That was a game we hadn't had all year," Royals manager Buddy Bell said. "We got some hits with runners in scoring position against a guy who's been tough on us. It does a lot for our confidence."

Chicago's four-game winning streak was snapped, but manager Ozzie Guillen didn't seem overly concerned.

"That's the first one I remember since Opening Day that we've been beat like this," he said.

The White Sox gave up a season-high 12 runs in a loss to Cleveland on April 2.

De La Rosa (4-3) retired his first 10 batters and overtook Gil Meche for the team lead in wins. De La Rosa gave up one run, three hits and three walks in his first road victory of the year. The left-hander was 0-2 with a 6.50 ERA in three road starts coming in.

"He's had a couple games like this," said catcher John Buck, whose sacrifice fly gave Kansas City a 1-0 lead in the second. "It's just a matter of he has days where he gets a little excited and rushes himself."

DeJesus finished 4-for-6 with two RBIs and three runs scored, helping Kansas City to its first victory in six tries over the White Sox this season and only its seventh in 32 games at U.S. Cellular Field since 2004.

Vazquez (2-2) allowed four runs and seven hits in six innings. He is winless in five starts since April 14.

"Bad location, at least," he said about Teahen's homer to right field. "It's a loss. We move on."

The Royals scored five times in the eighth off relievers Boone Logan, Nick Masset and former Royal Andrew Sisco. Tony Pena Jr. had a two-run single and DeJesus, Mike Sweeney and Ross Gload hit RBI singles to make it 10-1.

Masset was tagged for four runs, three hits and three walks in two-thirds of an inning.

"I didn't do my job," he said. "I didn't have a good feel for the ball."

DeJesus added an RBI double in the ninth. White Sox relievers have a 9.24 ERA in the last five games.

Chicago scored on Joe Crede's bases-loaded walk in the fourth.

The White Sox have reached double digits in hits once since April 25 and are batting just .210 this season. They host the New York Yankees for three games starting Tuesday.

"It's time to get better at-bats," Guillen said. "As a team, we never thought we'd struggle that way."

Royals RHP Octavio Dotel threw a simulated game. He's missed the entire season with a strained muscle on his side. ... Royals RHP Zack Greinke threw three scoreless innings in relief during Saturday's 5-4 loss in 10 innings. Greinke, a former first-round pick, is 1-5 with a 5.35 ERA after missing almost all of 2006 with social anxiety disorder. "The reason he's in the bullpen is so he can get his stuff figured out," Bell said. "We expect him at some point to be back in the rotation." ... De La Rosa, Meche and Odalis Perez have combined for nine of Kansas City's 12 wins. ... White Sox INF Alex Cintron, on the bereavement list, will return to the team later this week after the death of his grandfather in Puerto Rico. ... 1B Paul Konerko needs five RBIs to become the sixth player in White Sox history with 800.
