• Summary: Giants rookie Fred Lewis, four days removed from Triple-A Fresno, hit for the cycle against the Rockies to become the 24th player in Giants history to accomplish the feat. Lewis was 5-for-6 with a double, triple, a three-run home run and had four RBIs.
• Grace-ful performance: Lewis hit for the cycle on Mother's Day, making him the first player since Mark Grace to accomplish the feat on Mother's Day. Grace, then a Cub, hit for the cycle on May 9, 1993 against San Diego. • More cycle news: Fred Lewis hit for the cycle in his 16th MLB game. That's the earliest into a career a player has hit for the cycle since the Twins' Gary Ward (1980) did it in his 14th game. • Quotable: "I didn't wake up thinking I'd have a game like this. I never would have thought I'd have a day like today. I am just glad to get into the lineup." -- Lewis • Elias Says: San Francisco rookie Fred Lewis became the first player in almost 90 years to post the first triple and the first home run of his major league career in a game in which he hit for the cycle. -- ESPN.com news services |
Giants 15, Rockies 2
Game notes
Lewis' cycle was the 24th in Giants history and first since Winn's on Aug. 15, 2005, at Cincinnati. ... Bautista was shipped to Triple-A Colorado Springs after allowing six runs on seven hits in 1/3 of an inning. Rockies RHP Albert Arias also was optioned to Colorado Springs as the Rockies made room for RHP Jorge Julio, acquired Sunday from Florida for RHP Byung-Hyun Kim, and RHP Ramon Ramirez, returning from an injured right elbow.
