• Summary: Dan Johnson and Eric Chavez spoiled former A's ace Barry Zito's welcome back party Friday night as Oakland bashed the Giants 15-3.
• Hero: Johnson, who belted a third inning two-run homer and scored four runs in Zito's ignominious return to the Coliseum.
• Goat: Zito (3-5), soundly outpitched by small-money counterpart Chad Gaudin, was tagged for seven runs and six hits in four-plus innings. He walked off the mound to sarcastic cheers when he was pulled. • Losing their cool: Reliever Steve Kline and manager Bruce Bochy were ejected from the game for arguing with the umpire over balls and strikes. • Quotable: ""I expected them to back their team. They're great fans here, so if they didn't fully hate me, that's a good thing." -- Zito. -- ESPN.com news services |
