• Summary: Sorry, Braves. It was just Alfonso Soriano's night. Soriano hit three home runs in the span of four innings en route to a 4-for-5 day at the plate. Soriano had another three-homer game against the Braves on April 21, 2006, when he was with the Nationals.
• Unsung heroes: Cesar Izturis was 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice while Michael Barrett got in on the home run action with Soriano in the fourth inning, belting his eighth of the year. • Soriano fact: He is the fifth player in MLB history to have a three homers in a game against the same team while playing for different teams. • Soriano fact II: He became the first player since Alex Rodriguez to hit three home runs in the first four innings. A-Rod accomplished the feat on April 26, 2005 against the Angels. • Quotable: "This is what we were looking for. He's starting to give it to us. I tell you, when he's swinging the bat well, he's certainly fun to watch." -- Cubs manager Lou Piniella -- ESPN.com news services |
