• Summary: Ken Griffey Jr. inched his name higher in the record books after nailing his 582nd homer and 1,652 career RBI. The home run pulled him within one of Mark McGwire and the RBI tied him with Tony Perez for 18th place on the all-time list.
• At last: After eight tries, the Reds finally defeated the A's in regular-season interleague play. • Unsung hero: Cincinnati rookie Homer Bailey, making his third major league start, only yielded two hits in winning his second decision. • Figure this: Chad Gaudin became the 369th different pitcher to surrender a home run to Griffey. -- ESPN.com news services |
