Marlins 6, Dodgers 5 (10 innings)

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Hanley Ramirez surprised Chad Billingsley by homering on his second pitch. Ramirez hit another one later, then shocked the Dodgers with a go-ahead bunt single in the 10th inning.

Ramirez's impressive display led the Florida Marlins to a 6-5 victory Friday night and sent Los Angeles to its third straight loss. The victory enabled Dontrelle Willis to enjoy his latest no-decision after spending part of the week attending to his ailing wife, Natalee, back in Miami.

"I always go out there with my family in mind," Willis said. "My wife's sick, but I didn't let that [distract] me today. I went out there with her in my heart and I did the best I could tonight."

Willis allowed five runs -- four earned -- and seven hits over six innings with six strikeouts after squandering an early 3-0 lead. He and his wife became parents for the first time on April 24 when Natalee gave birth to a daughter, Adrianna Rose.

"She told me to go out there and have fun. It's kind of hard when you're seeing your wife hooked up to an I.V., but I felt like going back to see her was the right thing to do," Willis said. "I love this game, but I love her more. I think my teammates and coaching staff understand that I had to miss a couple of days and take care of some business back home, so I owed it to them to come back and make this start and not put the burden on someone else."

Jeremy Hermida drew a leadoff walk in the 10th from Brett Tomko (1-7). One out later, pinch-runner Eric Reed stole second. After a walk to Alfredo Amezaga, pinch-hitter Todd Linden beat out a potential double-play grounder, leaving runners at the corners with two outs. Ramirez then dropped a perfect bunt down the third-base line and Tony Abreu had no play as Reed scored.

"Nobody was expecting it, and that's why it worked so well," Reed said. "The guy threw it right down the middle and Hanley laid down a perfect bunt. Henley's game is more than just power. It's also speed. And it's always a weapon when he's able to get a bunt in critical situations, because nobody plays in on him."

Renyel Pinto (1-3) allowed one hit over two scoreless innings for his first major league win, and Kevin Gregg got three outs for his 18th save in 19 attempts. Gregg retired his first two batters before walking the next three, but Juan Pierre popped up a fastball to shortstop and Ramirez caught it for the final out.

"It didn't look pretty, but we won," said Gregg, who has walked 25 batters in 50 2/3 innings. "Tonight it was a little bit of a mechanical flaw -- just getting inside the ball and pushing it off the inside corner of the plate. Some of the walks I use in certain situations, but I feel comfortable pitching with guys on base. I don't want them to be that high, but it's working for me so far, so I can't complain."

The Marlins tied it 5-all in the ninth against closer Takashi Saito on a one-out walk to Dan Uggla and an RBI double by Miguel Cabrera, who will be Saito's teammate at Tuesday's All-Star Game.

The blown save was the second this season for Saito in 25 attempts, and only his fourth in 51 career save situations. The right-hander came in having walked only three batters in his previous 35 2/3 innings this season.

"The key to the game was when they scored off Saito," Dodgers manager Grady Little said. "That's a backbreaker. We needed to recover from that, and we weren't able to."

Ramirez, the 2006 NL Rookie of the Year, trimmed the Dodgers' lead to 5-4 in the seventh with his 14th homer -- putting him within three of last year's total.

Willis took a two-hitter and a 3-0 lead into the fifth before the Dodgers pulled ahead with five two-out runs. The big blow was Russell Martin's two-run homer. Luis Gonzalez scored when Hermida tried to one-hand Nomar Garciaparra's routine fly to right and dropped it for the Marlins' 72nd error -- most in the majors.

Billingsley, who pitched seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball last Sunday against San Diego, allowed Ramirez's ninth career leadoff homer. Ramirez's seven leadoff homers last year tied the major league record for rookies, set by Garciaparra in 1997 with Boston.

Dodgers reliever Joe Beimel, making his first appearance since spending two nights in a hospital with heart palpitations, faced one batter and gave up a single to Jacobs in the seventh. ... Willis has a career record of 35-17 with a 3.47 ERA before the All-Star break, and is 23-22 with a 3.77 ERA after it. ... The other time Ramirez led off a game with a home run this season was April 17 at Houston in a 6-1 loss. It came off Roy Oswalt, who was pitching on short rest. ... Jacobs snapped an 0-for-18 drought with a first-inning double.
