• Summary: Hanley Ramirez hit a pair of solo homers and drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning,
leading the Marlins to a 6-5 victory Friday night.
• Small ball: With two outs in the 10th, Ramirez dropped a perfect bunt down the third-base line and Tony Abreu had no play as pinch runner Eric Reed scored. Reed had stolen second and advanced to third after Todd Linden beat out a potential double-play grounder to leave runners at the corners. • Turning point: The Marlins tied it at 5 in the ninth against Dodgers closer Takashi Saito on a one-out walk to Dan Uggla and an RBI double by Miguel Cabrera. The blown save was the second this season for Saito in 25 attempts, and only his fourth in 51 career save situations. • Quotable: "Nobody was expecting it, and that's why it worked so well. The guy threw it right down the middle and Hanley laid down a perfect bunt. Henley's game is more than just power. It's also speed. And it's always a weapon when he's able to get a bunt in critical situations, because nobody plays in on him." -- Reed on the game-winning bunt -- ESPN.com news services |
