Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
W: L. Vizcaino (6-2)
L: C. Janssen (2-2)

• Summary: Robinson Cano hit the game-winning single in the 10th inning after Toronto closer Jeremy Accardo balked home the tying run, and the Yankees rallied past the Blue Jays.
• Turning point: With Johnny Damon at bat, Melky Cabrera stole third base in the bottom of the ninth. Damon walked and, with Derek Jeter batting, Accardo hesitated in his motion for a balk, sending Cabrera home. • Unsung hero: Luis Vizcaino worked a scoreless inning for the win. Toronto stranded 12 runners for the second consecutive game. • Did you see that? Yanks third base coach Larry Bowa waved Miguel Cairo home with none out even though right fielder Alex Rios was charging the ball hard. The play ended with Cairo being called out after a painful collision at home plate with catcher Gregg Zaun. • Quotable: "Dumbest thing I've ever done. I kind of let things get out of hand. I gave up the leadoff single and I started pressing. It's a mental mistake. You can't get beat by those. If you're going to get beat, get beat by the hitter." -- Accardo on the balk -- ESPN.com news services |
