Unsung duo helps Kim earn first home win with Marlins

MIAMI (AP) -- An unlikely duo provided the initial offensive spark for the Florida Marlins and one of their best hitters did the rest.

Hanley Ramirez hit a three-run home run and Jason Wood and Matt Treanor hit consecutive homers to help Byung-Hyun Kim earn his first home victory with the Marlins by beating the Cincinnati Reds 11-1 on Saturday night.

Wood is a 37-year-old journeyman and Treanor a light-hitting second-string catcher but both took advantage of a rare start. Wood had three hits and three RBIs, matching his career high in both categories. Treanor had three hits and batted in two runs.

Ramirez finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs.

Kim (5-5), acquired by Florida in May, won for the first time in seven starts at Dolphin Stadium. He pitched seven innings, giving up one run and five hits and striking out six. He didn't allow a base runner until he walked Ken Griffey Jr. with two outs in the fourth and he didn't allow a hit through four innings.

"He [Kim] pitched extremely well," said Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez. "He gave us seven good innings and kept us in the ballgame. I feel comfortable with Wood at the plate and Matt [Treanor] has been working on his offense. It paid off.

"We need everybody to contribute."

Bobby Livingston (2-1) pitched six-plus innings, allowing three runs and eight hits in his fifth major league start. He struck out five.

The Marlins blew the game open with an eight-run eighth inning, highlighted by Ramirez's 16th home run. The first nine Marlins reached base and they scored eight runs before the Reds recorded an out. The seven hits and eight runs in the inning are both season highs for the Marlins. The Reds used four pitchers in the inning.

"It was a good game for seven innings," Reds interim manager Pete Mackanin said. "Once again the bullpen gave it up."

Livingston left the game after giving up back-to-back home runs in the seventh.

"My focus on the game is I threw two bad pitches," Livingston said. "That's unacceptable to me and that's unacceptable period."

Wood led off with a home run over the left-field scoreboard, his third of the season. Treanor then hit a home run to almost the same spot, his second of the year, to make the score 3-1. It was the third time this season the Marlins have hit back-to-back home runs.

"I didn't even have time to celebrate my home run before Matt hit his onto the blue tarp," Wood said. "It was nice to see that happen. It was a good night all around."

Florida tied the score at 1 in the fifth. Wood and Treanor led off with singles. Kim laid down a sacrifice bunt that advanced the runners to second and third. Ramirez singled to drive in Wood.

"It's great to be in the major leagues with him [Wood]," Treanor said. "I was a little out in front but it was a changeup in the same spot as the one to Wood."

Adam Dunn got Cincinnati's first hit of the game when he led off the fifth with a double to left-center that led to the Reds' first run. After Kim hit Javier Valentin with a pitch, Edwin Encarnacion singled to drive in Dunn and make it 1-0.

The last time Florida had consecutive home runs was May 19 at Tampa Bay, when Jeremy Hermida and Aaron Boone did it. .... Marlins 3B Miguel Cabrera has hit safely in his last 11 games, a personal season-best. He is now tied with Ramirez for the longest hit streak by a Marlins player this year. ... Marlins OF Cody Ross made his first start since going on the DL on May 6 with a left hamstring strain. ... Livingston has made his first four starts on the road. ... Cincinnati INF/OF Jeff Conine was honored before Saturday's game as part of a celebration of the 10th anniversary of Florida's 1997 World Series championship. Conine, who played for the Marlins from 1993-1997 and 2003-2005, was a member of the 1997 and 2003 World Series champion Marlins.
