• Summary: With Bud Selig sitting in a front row seat, the Giants and Braves staged a 4-hour, 13-inning battle that saw the Giants rally in the ninth, but not have enough gas to top the Braves. On his 43rd birthday, Barry Bonds failed to homer, remaining stuck at 753.
• Turning point: After Pedro Feliz's two-run double in the bottom of the ninth closed the San Francisco deficit to a single run, pinch-hitter Bengie Molina hit a game-tying single to force extra innings. • Hero: Edgar Renteria lined a go-ahead, two-run double with two outs in the 13th inning. • Unsung hero: Tim Hudson allowed six hits in 8 2/3 innings, pitching shutout ball until Rich Aurilia's RBI single with two outs in the ninth. • Figure this: Bonds is 2-for-14 since homering twice against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Quotable: "I'll see how he's doing tomorrow. Barry's wait and see." -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy on whether Bonds will play on Wednesday -- ESPN.com news services |
Braves 7, Giants 5 (13 innings)
