• Summary: Rich Aurilia hit a tiebreaking homer in the
sixth inning and Noah Lowry held Atlanta scoreless after allowing a
run in the first as the Giants beat the Braves 2-1.
• Chasing Aaron: With Commissioner Bud Selig in attendance, Barry Bonds wasn't in the lineup Wednesday night. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said there was a "good chance" Bonds would be back in the lineup for Thursday afternoon's series finale to continue his pursuit of Hank Aaron's career home run record of 755. Bonds remains stuck on 753 home runs. • Figure this: The Giants have won just six times in 19 games this season with Bonds out of the starting lineup. • Quotable: "Wow, what a great job he did. He threw the ball well. He threw the ball as well tonight as he has all year. We needed some length in his outing. Eight solid innings, that's what you need after a 13-inning game." -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy on Lowry -- ESPN.com news services |
Giants 2, Braves 1
