• Summary: Eric Byrnes and Miguel Montero hit two-run homers, Livan Hernandez recorded his first road win since May 17, and the D-backs held off a late rally to beat the Dodgers.
• Power outage: Hernandez had his streak of giving up at least one home run in his last 13 starts snapped when the Dodgers failed to go deep Saturday night. • Standings watch: Arizona widened its lead over third-place Los Angeles to three games with its 12th victory in 14 games, while the Dodgers lost for the 11th time in their last 15. • Goat: Dodgers starting pitcher Derek Lowe allowed six runs -- four earned -- and four hits over five innings and struck out four. It was the right-hander's first outing in 10 days, the result of irritation in his left hip.-- ESPN.com news services |

Game notes
The game was only in the second inning when the news of Bonds' historic home run reached Dodger Stadium. But the video crew never showed it to the crowd of 52,921 -- which did get to see a replay of Alex Rodriguez's 500th homer. ... Lowe has allowed 11 unearned runs, the most on the Dodgers' staff and two more than he did last year. He has surrendered 84 unearned runs since the start of the 2003 season. ... Kent missed his fifth straight game because of a strained left hamstring. ... Diamondbacks starting pitchers have recorded an NL-leading 507 strikeouts despite only 72 by Randy Johnson, who underwent season-ending back surgery on Friday. ... Lowe has not reached the sixth inning in any of his last three starts. ... Arizona RF Justin Upton and Dodgers OF Delwyn Young each got his first major league hit. Young did it as a pinch-hitter.
