RFK Stadium, Washington, D.C.
W: T. Glavine (11-6)
L: M. Chico (5-7)
|
• Summary: For Tom Glavine, there's nothing like the sight of the Nationals. Glavine got his 301st win, allowing eight hits and one walk while striking out six. It was Glavine's 33rd win against the former Montreal Expos franchise and he improved to 4-1 with a 2.09 in RFK Stadium starts.
![]() Glavine • More Glavine: This was the 20th anniversary of Glavine's first start and he became the second pitcher in MLB history to win on his anniversary. The Tigers' Walter "Boom-Boom" Beck did it on Sept. 22, 1944. • Figure this: New York is 18-5 all-time at RFK Stadium and will improve to 7-0 in series there if it wins one more game this weekend. • Quotable: "I was mixing my pitches pretty well, perhaps as well as I have all year. I needed to pitch deep in the game to give our bullpen a break. That was my biggest goal coming into the game." -- Glavine -- ESPN.com news services |
Mets 6, Nationals 2
Game notes
The Nationals haven't had a starter throw more than six innings since John Lannan pitched seven against Arizona last Saturday. ... Muscular Nationals 1B Young -- hardly the swiftest player on the field -- hustled to make a ground-shaking catch in the third inning, rolling to the grass to snag Castillo's foul popup. ... The Mets have the best record in the majors in the first game of a series (26-14).
