• Summary: Prince Fielder hit a club-record 46th homer as the Brewers continued their playoff surge with a 5-3 win over the Reds Saturday, gaining ground on the rival Cubs.
• Milwaukee's best: Fielder's solo third-inning homer surpassed the previous team home-run mark he shared with Gorman Thomas (1979) and Richie Sexson (2001, 2003). • Unsung heroes: Jeff Suppan (10-11) gave up three runs and seven hits with one walk. He gave the Brewers four starters with 10 wins for the first time since their last winning season in 1992. Chad Cordero got four outs for his 42nd save in 48 chances. • Hunt for October: Milwaukee (75-72) moved within one game of the NL Central-leading Cubs, who split a doubleheader at St. Louis. • Quotable: "It's unbelievable what that young man is doing. The fans of Milwaukee should be very, very proud that they have a young man like that they can root for. -- Brewers manager Ned Yost on Fielder -- ESPN.com news services |
