• Summary: Boston is just one win away from its second World Series title in four years as Jacoby Ellsbury led the way with four hits and two RBIs, and Jonathan Papelbon held off the Rockies 10-5 to give the Red Sox a 3-0 edge.
• Rookies get rolling: Ellsbury and infielder Dustin Pedroia each had two RBIs and combined for seven hits as Boston batters blitzed Rockies pitching for 15 hits. • Turning point: After Colorado had sliced the gap in the seventh, Ellsbury quickly dampened the spirits of the Rockies' fans when he slapped a one-run double off Brian Fuentes to give Boston a 7-5 edge in the eighth. The Sox added to their lead when Dustin Pedroia drove a double to the wall in right-center scoring Kevin Youkilis and Manny Ramirez.• Unsung hero: Daisuke Matsuzaka allowed just two runs, both in the sixth, but little else, scattering three hits over five-plus innings to record his third postseason win. • Grim reality: Colorado must win four straight games against a Boston team that has won seven straight Series games for the first time in franchise history. • Quotable: "These guys won 20 out of 21 and now have lost three in a row. You can't look at the past." -- Youkilis -- ESPN.com news services |
Red Sox 10, Rockies 5
