MIAMI (AP) -- The Florida Marlins juggled their lineup and the results were positive.
Dan Uggla homered twice and drove in four runs,
Mark Hendrickson pitched seven effective innings and the Marlins beat the
San Diego Padres 6-4 on Friday night.
Uggla's second homer, a three-run shot off
Justin Germano that traveled over the left-field scoreboard, was followed by a homer by
Luis Gonzalez. It was the third time the Marlins hit back-to-back home runs this season.
With
Josh Willingham on the 15-day disabled list due to a lower back strain,
Hanley Ramirez moved to the third spot in the batting order and Uggla dropped to sixth. Gonzalez took Willingham's spot in left field. Ramirez went 1-for-4, reaching base safely for the 47th straight game at home.
"The opportunity was right to do something with [Willingham] going on the DL," Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Let's see how it goes. For right now I think it's good for the club."
Uggla also made a great defensive play to end the game, diving for a two-out grounder by
Tony Clark and barely getting him at first.
"It was fun diving around and I was lucky to get him," Uggla said. "I felt we did a lot of things right tonight. We made some good defensive plays and got a lot of big hits from a lot of people."
Hendrickson [5-1] allowed three runs and five hits for the Marlins, who ended a three-game losing streak.
"For the first six innings, I was very happy," Hendrickson said. "I had command of my fastball and my curveball was good. It was just execution. It was good to get the first one of this series."
Khalil Greene hit a two-run drive off Hendrickson in the seventh for his first homer of the season.
San Diego has lost 13 of 16 and four of its last five games.
Taylor Tankersley pitched a scoreless eighth and
Kevin Gregg allowed a run in the ninth before finishing for his fifth save in six opportunities.
"It was a good win for us," Luis Gonzalez said. "This is going to be a tough couple games for us with [Jake] Peavy and [Greg] Maddux going for wins. Hopefully, with our aggressiveness and young guys here we can overcome that."
Germano [0-3] gave up five earned runs and nine hits over 5 2/3 innings. He hasn't won since August 28, 2007, against Arizona, a span of 11 appearances [eight starts].
"I just made a couple of bad pitch selections," Germano said.
Kevin Kouzmanoff tied his career high with four hits for San Diego. He drove in a run and scored.
"I just had good pitches to hit tonight and I hit them," Kouzmanoff said. "It's not all going to fall into place in one night. We're still coming together as a team."
Jeremy Hermida had an RBI single in the first and Uggla went deep in the second to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead.
San Diego cut it to 2-1 in the fourth.
Brian Giles led off with a single, advanced to third on consecutive groundouts and scored on Kouzmanoff's single.
