MIAMI (AP) -- Barry Zito removed an unwanted zero from his record.
The left-hander earned his first win of the season after eight straight losses, pitching the San Francisco Giants past the Florida Marlins 8-2 Friday night.
Embarrassment Averted
Getting his first win of the year helped Barry Zito avoid one inglorious Giants franchise pitching record -- the mark for most consecutive decisions lost to start a season. The three worst starts:
| Pitcher | Year | Losses | |
| Rod Beck* | 1996 | 9 | |
| Barry Zito | 2008 | 8 | |
| Jessie Burkett | 1890 | 8 | |
